Cuala manager Austin O’Malley expects Niall O’Callaghan to earn a recall to the Dublin senior football panel following his man of the match performance against Naas.

Con’s younger brother scored 1-5 in Saturday night’s win in Newbridge to help the first-time Dublin champions to a Leinster club SFC semi-final meeting with Tullamore on the weekend after next. Niall, who briefly featured under Dessie Farrell before, was also involved in the other Cuala goal scored by Luke Keating.

“He obviously has the pedigree and the quality is there, so it’s probably a decision that if he did get a call, he’d have to make but I’m happy enough to have him here with me anyway,” former Mayo star O’Malley told reporters.

“His work ethic throughout and his dropping back, his covering of so much ground, it was a brilliant, brilliant evening.

“But look, I thought all the guys, to a man, they all stood up in different ways and that’s what was needed.”
