The postponement of four county football championship games in Cork last Sunday due an orange weather alert will have repercussions for hurling fixtures in the Rebel County.

Cork CCC has rescheduled the postponed Nemo Rangers v Clonakilty and Mallow v Muskerry PSFC quarter-finals for Bandon and Macroom respectively this Sunday. The PSFC relegation playoff between Éire Óg and Carbery Rangers along with the IFC ‘A’ quarter-final between Mitchelstown and Gabriel Rangers have also been refixed for Saturday.

It means that hurling games involving Nemo Rangers, Mallow and Ballygiblin that were originally scheduled for this weekend have now been deferred until the weekend of October 12/13. And those games will be pushed back by another week if Nemo or Mallow win their rescheduled football quarter-finals.

In a statement, Cork GAA explained that that “due to the Munster football championship deadline preceding the hurling equivalent, county football championship fixtures will be given priority for the remainder of the Championships.”

The orange weather warning also led to the postponement of two Kilkenny SHC and two Wexford SFC quarter-finals which have been also rescheduled for this weekend.
