The Sam Maguire Cup was up for grabs as Kerry did battle with Galway in the 2022 All-Ireland SFC final at Croke Park.

The Munster champions had their sights set on a 38th All-Ireland and first since 2014, while the Tribesmen had prevailed at the highest level on nine occasions previously, their most recent success having been recorded in 2001.

Both sets of players already had fond memories of playing at Croker this summer. The Kingdom's thrilling semi-final victory over Dublin a fortnight ago will live long in the memory, as will the Connacht kingpins' epic penalty-shoot-out quarter-final defeat of Armagh.

More history-making drama unfolded when these two brilliant football sides competed for the biggest prize in football on the hallowed turf of GAA HQ.
