Andy Comerford has ripped into Kilkenny’s underperforming stars in the wake of last Saturday’s hammering by Galway.
In a no holds barred interview with TC Tyres World of Gaelic Games on CRKC, the former All-Ireland winning captain told the Cats’ big names to ‘stop shining’ their All-Stars and ‘get down to work’. Kilkenny’s 0-17 to 0-35 defeat in Salthill was their heaviest since the 1950s and leaves them in danger of being relegated from Division 1A ahead of the last round against Tipperary on Saturday week.
“Lads with All-Stars, take them out from under the pillow, stop shining them and throw them to one side. It’s All-Irelands we need. Any of those lads that have All-Stars before, they need to get rid of them, forget about them,” Comerford blasted.
“Forget about the commercialism, forget about all that. We need to get down to work. These players know who they are, I don’t have to call them out. They are not performing well enough for us, the way we should be.
“I left disgusted like many other supporters that were up there, very few. We can’t expect supporters to come out and support the team if the players are not giving it to us.”
