Holders St Eunan’s got off the mark at the second attempt in the Donegal senior football championship yesterday with a 2-21 to 1-13 win over Aodh Ruadh.

Having lost out to Kilcar by three points last weekend, the Letterkenny side welcomed back county men Shaun Patton, Ciaran Moore, Conor O'Donnell and Niall O'Donnell for the second-round assignment in Ballyshannon and would build-up a 2-9 to 1-4 lead by the end of the first-half.

After Shane McGrath had netted an early goal for Aodh Ruadh, St Eunan’s responded with two of their own from Eoin McGeehin to hold a commanding advantage at the break.

The two O’Donnells would combine for 0-10 over the hour for the reigning champions as they won out by 11 in the end to get their Dr Maguire Cup bid up and running.

Meanwhile, Naomh Conaill bounced back from their opening round defeat to Glenswilly last weekend by edging out Ardara on 0-18 to 1-14 scoreline (watch match highlight of that one below).

Other results in the Tir Chonaill County on Saturday saw last year’s beaten finalists Dungloe defeating Killybegs by 3-13 to 0-11 and Gweedore 0-19 to 0-11 winners over St Naul’s.
