Tipperary legend Seamus Callanan is set to take his first step into inter-county coaching with the Offaly senior hurlers.
According to the Irish Independent, the former Hurler of the Year has been recruited as a forwards coach by manager Johnny Kelly as the Faithful look to build on this year’s Joe McDonagh Cup and All-Ireland U20HC successes. Callanan will join his former Tipp team-mate and fellow All-Ireland SHC winning captain Brendan Maher in the backroom team. Maher and his brother Martin are already part of the coaching set-up.
One of the deadliest forwards of his generation, Callanan won three All-Ireland SHC medals in 2010, '16 and '19 as well as a National League title in 2008 and four All-Stars. His career peaked in 2019 when was named Hurler of the Year and also skippered Tipp to Liam MacCarthy Cup glory.
The Drom & Inch sharpshooter scored 40 championship goals - the last of which ironically came against Offaly in last year's All-Ireland SHC preliminary quarter-final. He brought the curtain down on a stellar 16-year inter-county career a few weeks later.
