Mackessy set for Kilkenny switch

Poc Fada winner Fionan Mackessy

New Kerry senior hurling manager John Griffin is resigned to losing to Fionán Mackessy to Kilkenny.

The two-time Poc Fada champion has been a revelation since transferring from Ardfert to O'Loughlin Gaels, and scored 1-7 in their Kilkenny SHC semi-final win over Bennettsbridge last Sunday.

"He's after getting a job in Kilkenny, he's playing his club hurling with O'Loughlin Gaels," Griffin said at his first press briefing since becoming Kerry manager last night.

"He sees an opportunity now as he's living and working up there of maybe making a Kilkenny panel.

"I don't think anyone in his home club or in Kerry would begrudge him that."
