Replying To cavanman47:  "Yeah it is. . .

If Everton had won the last 3 on the trot.
If Everton had won a Premier league more recently.
And if Everton's latest win was the biggest winning margin in the fixture in half a century. . .

Then it would be just like that."
And Liverpool had never reached the pinnacle of their sport ever. In history. Not once.

Apart from all that it might be an useful comparison

Why would something 70 years ago have any bearing on today? I think it's odd to think you are better team than someone when the championship hasn't even started… let the dust settle after the all Ireland series and see where everyone is at! Like I said .. the mentality in Cavan is to beat Monaghan .. that's your all Ireland …

Not the result we wanted out West.

Mayo were poor today but they're a different prospect in Castlebar.

Winnable but tough.

You compared your county to Liverpool not me. 70s years ago or whenever, right now your countys past, present and foreseeable future has 0 titles so I don't think your Liverpool comparison holds water

This is a mad take, Tom. Monaghan have only ever won the Ulster championship. Yet, you say that the championship hasn't even started for Monaghan. You're clearly trolling the Monaghan people by posting stuff like this. Truthfully, neither of us have a chance of winning Sam this year. But to suggest that you're championship is the one starting in two weeks is bizarre.

Yes so it's Mayo in two weeks. It's hard to know what to think, I changed my mind 5 or 6 times while watching it as to who we'd be better off playing. I think Galway would probably have been better suited to us, Gunner could have picked up Comer and in general it's a good time to play Galway with so many only coming back from injury. Salthill is also slightly more attractive as an away venue!

Mayo threw it away Sunday. They have a tendency to keep teams in the game. Louth nearly caught them last year. Their running game is going to cause us problems. Whelan had a good piece on the Sunday game on Galway's double sweeper set up. I think we should do the same. If the defence is set deep and the D is clogged up, it limits the effectiveness of pace and athleticism. Mayo players looked very reluctant to shoot from distance. There is pressure on McStay and mayo supporters don't seem particularly happy so it's important we don't give them any gifts early on

We played them in 05 after going on a good run in the qualifiers but played poorly that day. I think we beat them in the league in castlebar recently enough

Can't see us winning in Mayo on Saturday week. They have serious pace in the forwards in Ryan O'Donoghue ,Tommy Conroy and JordanFlynn. Killian Clarke will have to man mark Aidan O'Shea as he is a handfull if he on the ball creating time and space for their runners. Without Galligan we have had no solid midfield parnership for over 2 seasons now and no stand out players found by team management in the meantime to match the likes of Matthew Ruane and Dermuid O'Connor for Mayo
Yes the Mayo defenders will run hard and fast on turnover's won by any sloppy play by us.
The good news the same Mayo defenders will panic at the sight of high balls hit down on them but with Lynch gone we have no big forwards
Pity we could not get G. Mc Kiernan back for the 3 matches, He was Man of the Match when we last beat Mayo back in 2017.

In previous years yes but with the new format the provincial championships is just get a higher grading and seeding. The new system championship starts this weekend for most teams. How is it bizarre? you are still fixated of winning the ulster champ.. as great and all as it is the structure has changed and the All Ireland championship starts this weekend... you can huff and puff and say whatever but that is the reality, same for cavan. you beat us fair and square and in the old system that was a huge thing to progress... but now the new structure takes away from the Ulster Champ. If all you can is take swipes at all irelands then you are not seeing the bigger picture!

So to sum up. . .

Cavan have won 5 trophies worth winning.

Monaghan have won 0.

I'll repeat, you said that beating Monaghan was our All Ireland, whereas, you claim yours is about to begin. That is bizarre, Tom. You've never gotten near to winning this competition. How can you seriously suggest that this is any more your competition than ours! You're also dismissing the only competition your county has won in the last 50 years. That's mental.

No, I'm not from Mullahoran. One of your other profiles uses this name.

I'm feeling fairly hopeful that we can make a game of this. Were at home and have had an extra week's rest. We should be hungrier. I don't think Dublin will win the all Ireland this year.

The general mood around the county about this game is pretty horrendous, although probably understandable after the showing in Castlebar. I can't believe how we would be happy with keeping it to single digits. I actually heard someone say this week that we would be better off in the Tailteann cup Christ

A man at work was playing the podcast at lunch today and the two lads had a Dub on - he was unbearably arrogant, the complete opposite to what we hear in Cavan. He was saying things like Colm Basquel being better than any of the Mayo forwards and Ger Brennan might be looked down upon for the Dublin job because he took the Louth job. Good grief !
