Conversely if they'd taken their points they might not currently be 2nd from bottom of Div4

Down and Westmeath have 5/6 goals scored and they 2 points behind us.
The objective is to get out of div3 whatever way possible. And we seem to be going the right direction.
Winning breeds confidence and the goals will come with confidence.,
I wouldn't be too worried about the lack of goals. 10/12 points will get us promotion and anything else is a bonus.
We are well capable of beating Armagh in the quarters at home and shouldn't fear Down or Donegal after that either.
Ulster final place and promotion would be a good year.
And it's possible.

That's it alright. Would I like more goals? Sure. But we're unbeaten, beat a fellow promotion favourite away, put 2 other teams to the sword, and are otherwise scoring freely. We've little to be complaining about if this is an issue. Hopefully the goals will come though

Down and Westmeath are under new managers finding their feet. I think Cavan are more settled and should have a more consistent way of scoring goals. Rory Gallagher even spoke about Derry wanting to score goals to get to another level. Every game they play look to create goal chances.

Even though we have a very good record v Armagh the fact that they have a preliminary round gimme v Antrim reduces our chances big time… I would fancy us a lot more if we had got them in the preliminary round but let's see…. For me getting out of Division 3 is much more important

you are missing my point Cavan dont go after goals even against poor opposition and keep taking the point option so players stop making the extra run that might lead to a goal as they already know that the ball will be put over the bar and long term this leads to very few goal oportunities being created and a small percentage of those created scored this leads to our downfall against better opposition in tighter matches and is why we can never beat tyrone for example.

I feel the preliminary is more of a hinderance as they're only a week between it and the Cavan game . So that don't leave much recovery time.
With the possibility of a league final for us it leaves 2 weeks break plus its competitive football right up to the championship.
Normally a preliminary would be an advantage but with this rushed season I don't see that.

I was more thinking of catching Armagh on the hop.. A championship game a week before they play us gives them the edge in my view…. As for a league Final , I certainly hope we are in it but it never compares to the intensity of championship football…

How we feeling for Offaly folks? Think we're back to a proper test since Westmeath after the last 2 were practically training games after 25 minutes. We need to be in the right place, and be ready for the step up. Offaly have been decent, even though falling away against Westmeath at the end. Hopefully our fitness which has been good will keep us at them and have us in front by the end. It'll be good to get a test, Tullamore is a nice field to get to, and I see us winning by 2 to 3 hopefully with good away support. As mentioned up above, would like to see some more goals, and it's the type of game where they'll make a huge difference. We need a replacement for Oisin Brady to take frees (I'd imagine that's Lynch), and hoping Carolan and McVeety are fine after those knocks. I haven't heard word that they're out injured or that.

Armagh seem to have no idea how to judge Ulster, as seen by the last 8 or so years with McGeeney. You could well be right, but history would say to me that they might be too fond of themselves by then. They could either look after themselves, get past Antrim, and temper expectations for a week later, or they could win, start celebrating and think they've a stroll to the final. I think i know what way they will go

Well I present form they lay down big time against an average Roscommon team last Sunday.
As per usual they will bring plenty of off the ball stuff with them. They experts at that when things are not going their way.
We will be well up for them above any other team

Cavan scored 8 goals in the league last year. 3 against Waterford, 1 V London, Tipp and Sligo and 2 in the final v Tipp. Only 7 teams in the league scored more goals. In terms of goals per game, we were 11th out of 32

If we couldn't get 8 goals in 7 basement Div 4 games then we might as well give up altogether…!! A paltry return in all fairness

We are talking about our lack of goals and how it is sure to impact on us in matches against strong opponents….meaning 8 goals v Div 4 opposition is a pretty poor return…simple

Division 4 was for getting out of. And we did. Whether we scored 8 goals, or 40. It was lose lose no matter what you did. You can only look at what we're doing now, and we are creating the chances but took the points in games long over as we managed them well. We need to leave it behind us and look up, not behind. We look far better this year so far

I agree Loughduff but surely even you can see our lack of goals as been a problem… We will be tested tomorrow… I haven't seen any huge improvement on last year yet… Tipp and Longford were woefully poor and getting Westmeath the first day out helped massively… Tomorrow will be a better test

I'd be worried if we weren't creating chances. But we are. 2 goals in 3 looks poor, but we easily left behind 3 or 4 by taking the points (Kerry just did do for their final point just there too). I'm OK with that. When we need to take them, we I'm hoping we will. We do need to turn into a goals team, not disagreeing there. Lynch hopefully makes a difference if he starts tomorrow and can add to this.

Team named. No bench on it, just a starting 15. Only change is Marty in for Oisin Brady. Might expect a few changes to that though
