It will be interesting to see what the new Mayo coach brings to the table, I have heard great things. Do you have any details on the other new lads drafted in ?

Good opening day win for Cavan…. Great to see Martin Reilly still on board but strange to see him starting a game like this… Oisin Brady had a good day in front of goal it seems….. ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4243 - 08/01/2023 15:51:35 2451517 Link 0 |

How do folks. Happy new year all, back after a sabbatical and looking forward to another year of Cavan football. Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 09/01/2023 15:27:49 2451730 Link 2 |

Team released for game tonight. A lot of continuity from the team that started Sunday, but with Galligan back in goals (I'd have stuck with Liam Brady for this, although maybe he has a knock as he's not on the panel tonight) and Cian Madden comes in too. Cooke, Maguire, and Tiarnan Madden continue. Gunner and GMac on the bench. Armagh go strong, so it'll be a tough ask. Good to see some of these lads get a continued run, but I would imagine there may be a few changes before throw in. Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 11/01/2023 10:20:10 2451997 Link 1 |

On another thread someone said Martin Reilly, Killian Brady and Raymond Galligan have retired. Obviously bull. Also suggested James Smith and Paddy Lynch may opt out. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12494 - 11/01/2023 13:12:48 2452032 Link 1 |

Marty played the other day, so he's still there. Gunner and Galligan still on the panel. Galligan named to play tonight, while Gunner is away but due to return soon. Lynch and Smith currently either injured or sick at the moment according to Mickey Graham the other day, but both still on the panel.

Yeah Gunner is named on the bench for tonight. Good to hear Smith and Lynch are still there. Game-changers for us. Thanks Loughduff Lad Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12494 - 11/01/2023 14:28:55 2452055 Link 2 |

No worries. Gunner won't be there as I hear he's still away, but is due back on the panel for the League

What's the point of naming a team and then making changes before throw in…. In what way can this be beneficial.. Cavan are not the only team who are at this nonsense…. bonkers stuff

Great win tonight. Armagh came well loaded, but seems all their changes at half time unsettled them. We needed to do that job anyway, and saw it off with some good scores. Nice to see Ryan O'Neill profit off a bad kick out to hit the net. Kept well in it with some nice scores and good free taking from Galligan and Oisin Brady to keep it level at half time. Pulled away with good play 2nd half, but that was a shadow Armagh side by then, even with Rian O'Neill on for them. Did keep up with their stronger team first half anyway. Great work on us for turnovers and movement across the field. McVeety back is a joy, simply. Lots to work on including stopping being so mouthy to the officials. Many times the ball was marched forward. Good to win against a team who gave beaten us well recently, even if it is McKenna Cup. Semi v Tyrone in Breffni at 5pm this Saturday now. Hope we bring a crowd, extra game before the League will be great. Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2488 - 11/01/2023 21:55:02 2452108 Link 0 |

As it's a pre-season tournament, and things can change up to throw in. GAA usually require teams days in advance for printing the program, and some might be touch and go at that time. Johnny McCabe named to start v Antrim, but pulled up in training the night before with an injury for example. You'll get that kind of thing

A lot of water lying on the pitch from all the rain, the game against Tyrone would do well to go ahead. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2949 - 12/01/2023 10:38:32 2452136 Link 0 |

Been an awful lots of games on it late in last year. I was on the pitch in November and it was like a swamp around the goals and out to the 20. No wonder it looked in poor nick last night, especially with all that rain. Will be a tough ask for Saturday too. You'd be hoping when they get all these extra pitches open at the Polo Grounds centre of excellence thing, that there won't be so much pressure on the main pitch going forward.

There was an All Ireland intermediate hurling semi played in December on it. But I thought most of the underage finals in Cavan were on the 3G pitch FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2949 - 12/01/2023 12:59:50 2452177 Link 0 |
