Experienced Kerry forward Paul Geaney says the Munster champions have been forced into “a one-game-at-a-time mentality” following last weekend’s surprise loss to Meath.
The Kingdom went down to the Royals on a 1-22 to 0-16 scoreline in Tullamore last Saturday, meaning a shock defeat to Cavan this Saturday (3.30pm) would spell an end to their All-Ireland SFC hopes.
Jack O’Connor’s side are 1/20 favourites to see off the Breffni men in Killarney and advance to the last eight of the Sam Maguire Cup race and, speaking to RTE Sport this week, Geaney says that the defeat to Meath five days ago could have an unexpected benefit.
"I think we need to nail down some things and need to find the energy that's required to mount a challenge,” said the two-time All Star.
"You couldn't be happy with Saturday, everyone's a bit disappointed. We just have to regroup and get things right now for this weekend.
"If you don't win this weekend, you don't deserve to be going any further. But it's forced us into a one-game-at-a-time mentality, where it's all about Saturday."
