Carlow hit the last three points as they edged out Laois by 2-26 to 0-29 Laois Hire O'Moore Park to relegate the hosts and keep themselves in the hunt for promotion to Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League.

Paddy Boland’s goal gave Tom Mulally’s men a 1-4 to 0-5 lead a dozen minutes into this Portlaoise clash and they’d go on to hold a 1-13 to 0-14 advantage at the half.

Aaron Dunphy (free) and Jordan Walshe got it level for Laois by the 46th minute and they’d hit the front for the first time through Aidan Corby before Mossy Keyes sailed over to put them two ahead.

The home side moved three ahead when Dunphy pointed from play in the 63rd minute but that lead would be wiped out by Ted Joyce’s goal for the Barrowsiders ahead of points via Marty Kavanagh (2) and Chris Nolan down the home stretch sealing their victory.

The result relegates the O’Moore men and Westmeath, meaning safety in Division 1B is now confirmed for Davy Fitzgerald’s Antrim side.

In Division 2, Meath earned their third victory of the campaign by defeating already promoted Down by 2-30 to 4-21 in Trim, while Armagh picked up two crucial points in Division 3 after seeing off Cavan on a 2-21 to 2-15 scoreline at Kingspan Breffni.
