Bryan Murphy's audacious bid to become Kildare GAA chairman fell short by just 10 votes at last night's county convention at the new-look Cedral St Conleth's Park.

A left field candidate to replace Mick Gorman who stepped down under the GAA's five-year rule, the Clane clubman lost out to Celbridge's Mick Mullen by 95 votes to 85. The Cork native earned his place in the annals of Kildare GAA when he scored the winning goal in the Lilywhites’ 1998 Leinster SFC final victory over Meath, their first in 42 years.

In the only other election, Ger Donnelly and Dave Cahill were elected as Central Council delegates ahead of Séamus Ó Mídheach and Leonie Delaney.
