GAA-related projects will share in €50m of Government funding under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.
The largest beneficiary of GAA-only funding is Dublin GAA, which has been awarded €7m towards the development of a new Centre of Excellence at their Spawell site near Templeogue. A whopping €19 million has been pledged for the Cavan Regional Sports Campus, based around Kingspan Breffni, which benefit the GAA among other sports.
Meanwhile, Roscommon, Wexford and Clare GAA will receive €5.5m, €3.5m and €3.2m respectively for their major infrastructural projects, while Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney has been allocated €6m towards the reconstruction of an existing terrace at the western end of the venue.
GAA clubs to benefit include Killeevan Sarsfields in Monaghan and St Colmcille’s (€1m each) and Patrickswell in Limerick (€650,000), while €1m has also been awarded to Naas GAA in Kildare for a cross-community development.
