Wall for Westmeath?

Speculation is mounting that Lar Wall will be the next Westmeath senior football manager.

The former Laois footballer has been heavily linked with the Lake County vacancy after stepping down from his coach / selector role with Roscommon and also losing out to Robbie Brennan for the Meath manager’s post last week. Roscommon manager Davy Burke has drafted in fellow Confey clubman and former Kildare footballer Hugh Lynch as a replacement for the Enfield-based Wall, who led The Downs to a Leinster Club SFC final apperance in 2022.

With former manager Jack Cooney leading the selection process, there is also speculation that Rory Gallagher is in the mix. Cooney served as a coach / selector under Gallagher during his time as Donegal manager a decade ago, but the chances of him replacing Dessie Dolan are far less likely.

Westmeath, Derry - who Gallagher won't be returning to - and Clare are the only senior inter-county football posts left to be filled ahead of the 2025 season.
