Bannigan named new Monaghan football manager

Gabriel Bannigan has been appointed Monaghan senior football manager for a three-year term, ensuring continuity with the outgoing management.

The Aughnamullen man, who was part of Vinny Corey's set-up for the past two season, will be joined by former Mayo star Andy Moran, who had been linked with a number of managerial vacancies since stepping down from his role with Leitrim earlier this year, along with Dermot McArdle, Damien Freeman and John McElhome.

Bannigan led his home club from junior to senior in three seasons and also managed Dublin clubs Kilmacud Crokes and St Sylvester’s. His appointment leaves means that just three counties - Derry, Westmeath and Clare - are still without a manager for 2025.

"Monaghan GAA is delighted to announce that Aughnamullen native Gabriel Bannigan was formally ratified as Senior Football Manager by Monaghan County Committee at a meeting earlier this evening," a county board statement read.

"Gabriel will be joined by Andy Moran, John McElhone and Damien Freeman and has been appointed for a three-year term with a review after two years.

"Best wishes to Gabriel and his backroom team."
