No chance of Antrim players backing down in Corrigan Park row, says McConville

Oisin McConville believes “there's not a chance” that Antrim’s players will back down from their stance in the Corrigan Park row.

After Ulster Council switched the Saffrons’ Ulster SFC quarter-final against Armagh from the Belfast ground to Pairc Esler, Newry last Thursday, Antrim county board immediately responded by reiterating that they will not play the clash against the All-Ireland champions anywhere but Corrigan Park.

Speaking on BBC Sport NI’s GAA Social podcast, current Wicklow manager and former Armagh star McConville said Andy McEntee’s side should keep home advantage on April 12th.

"The game should be at Corrigan Park," he stated.

"Whatever needs to happen in order for it to be there, it should be there. I don't know how that is going to come about, but I imagine it will end up there."

The situation mirrors that of 2018 when Kildare’s ‘Newbridge or nowhere’ stance saw their All-Ireland qualifier against Mayo switched from St Conleth’s Park to Croke Park and back to the Newbridge venue.

McConville added: "I don't think Newbridge was in any better shape than Corrigan Park at that time. I know it's a fine set up now, but if it could be made to happen there, I'm pretty sure it could be made to happen at Corrigan Park. Whatever needs to happen in order to do it, it'll need to be done."
