Donegal came from behind to defeat Derry by 1-22 to 1-19 in Ballyshannon this afternoon and join Galway at the top of the Allianz Football League Division 1 table on eight points.

Having been beaten heavily by the Tribesmen last weekend, the Ulster champions were second best for long periods again and looked set for a second straight loss until second-half substitute Michael Murphy put Shane O’Donnell in for their goal to leave them just three points down with a little under seven minutes remaining.

A Ciaran Thompson two-pointer would be backed up by points from Conor O’Donnell and Ciaran Moore much to the delight of the home crowd as the visitors were shut out down the home stretch.

Late points from Conor O’Donnell and Daire O Baoill secured the win for Jim McGuinness’s side, who had trailed by 0-11 to 0-7 at half-time before conceding a Conor Glass goal seven minutes into the second-half.

The result now leaves Donegal in prime position to reach the Division 1 final with two round remaining, while their neighbours must now try and pull off the great escape to avoid relegation having earned just one point from five games.
