Longford have moved quickly to fill their senior hurling managerial vacancy with the appointment of Diarmuid Cahill to the position.

The Tipperary native replaces Adrian Moran, who surprisingly stepped down after three years in charge a fortnight ago. Hailing from the Kilruane McDonagh's club, Diarmuid is a son of former Antrim and Laois senior hurling manager Dinny. He has had stints with the Westmeath and Kildare camogs, and was part of the Ballinamere management team - which was headed up by ex-Laois hurler Niall Rigney - that pushed hot favourites Kilcormac/Killoughey all the way in this year's Offaly SHC final.

Cahill's first competitive game in charge of Longford - who contested this year's Lory Meagher Cup final - will be at home to Warwickshire in Division 4 of the Allianz Hurling League on Saturday, January 25.
