Football fever has swept Lurgan ahead of Sunday’s Armagh SFC final between Clan na Gael and Clann Eireann.

A huge crowd is expected to descend on the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds for the first all-Lurgan final since 1968 and the first not to feature Crossmaglen since 2017. An Adam Kelly goal helped Clann Eireann to dethrone Cross’ in the semi-final, while Clan na Gael overcame Madden by 0-14 to 0-12 in the other last-four tie to reach a second successive decider.

Clann Eireann have the experience of winning the Gerry Fagan Cup in 2021 after a 58-year lapse and boast the talents of Armagh All-Ireland winners Conor Turbitt, Barry McCambridge – who is tipped to win Footballer of the Year – and Tiernan Kelly.

Despite being third on the roll of honour, it’s 30 years since Clan na Gael last ruled the roost in the Orchard County, having come up short against Crossmaglen in last year’s final. They will look to Sam Maguire winners Stefan ‘Soupy’ Campbell and Shane McPartlan along with captain Diarmuid O’Hagan and Niall Henderson to end their long wait.
