Back-to-back All-Ireland champions Limerick are still waiting their first win in 2022 as they needed an injury-time point from David Reidy to snatch a 0-18 apiece draw against Clare at Cusack Park this afternoon.

Following defeats to Wexford, Galway and Cork, the holders looked somewhere back to their best but had to settle for a share of the spoils in a fiercely competitive Allianz Hurling League Group A clash with their close neighbours in front of a crowd of 10,016 spectators.

Scorer of 0-5 (three frees), wing-back Diarmaid Byrnes had the chance to nick victory for John Kiely's side after substitute Reidy levelled matters but his long-range effort sailed wide.

Limerick's Aaron Gillane received his marching orders on 65 minutes, while opponent Jack Browne was also sent off for a separate off-the-ball incident afterwards, meaning both sides finished with 14 players.

Ryan Taylor had a golden opportunity to put the Clare three points up heading into six-minutes of additional time, but his shot on goal was expertly saved by goalkeeper Nickie Quaid.

They also had a goal controversially disallowed in the opening half when David Fitzgerald was adjudged to be in the 'square'.

Despite the loss of captain Declan Hannon to injury, Limerick were always on the front foot in the first-half and points from Gillane, Byrnes, Gearoid Hegarty and Cathal O'Neill pushed them to a 0-11 to 0-9 interval lead.

However, Clare battled gamely, with Tony Kelly pilfering eleven points and debutant Robin Mounsey brilliantly firing over a sideline cut to help them regain parity.
