St Sinchills Camogie Club Notes

June 21, 2021

One of the St Sinchills teams that took part in Saturday's under 8 blitz in Killeigh.

Under 12

Well done to our Under 12 girls who had their first championship outing on Wednesday evening against Belmont. It was a very close match, the girls unfortunately lost by 1 point but there was fantastic skill on show. We look forward to following this exciting team throughout the Summer.

Under 16

Our Under 16s had a terrific start to the Championship on Thursday evening away to St Cillians.

In a similar game to the U14A semi final between these two teams, St Sinchills rallied late on to come back, take the lead and win the game on a score line of 7-09 to 6-09.

Well done to all players and management on a great start to the championship.

Scorers:  A.Brazil 1-1, B.Walsh 1-1, A.Greene 2-1, L.O'Reilly 1-0, J.Murray 2-0, S.Dillon 0-6

Under 8 Blitz:

St Sinchills were delighted to welcome teams from Edenderry and Kilcormac to Killeigh GAA pitch on Saturday morning for the first Under 8 blitz of the year. The morning saw lots of camogie on show with all 8 teams getting 4 matches each.

Well done to all our own young players and all from Edenderry and Kilcormac, we hope you enjoyed the morning. A big thanks to all our club volunteers who helped out on the day also.

Intermediate League:

Saturday evening saw another fantastic win for our Intermediate team. A super team performance saw a 3-06 to 1-09 win over Lusmagh/Drumcullen.

Lusmagh/Drumcullen started the match well and had 3 points on the scoreboard within quick succession. St Sinchills responded and great play from the full forward line of Stephanie Hyland, Hannah Dunne and Roisin Keenahan resulted in Keenahan been dragged to the ground. Katie Keyes was unlucky to hit the crossbar with the penalty but Keenahan was on hand a few moments later once again, after been played through by her sister Lauren she made no mistake in finishing the ball to the back of the net. Drumcullen responded with a goal from the stick of Clodagh Leahy. The teams then traded a point each before the break. Good work from the midfield pairing of Aoibheann Walsh and Lisa Brady ended with Roisin Keenahan popping a nice pass out to Lauren Keenahan who made no mistake with raising the white flag. Lusmagh/Drumcullen responded with a point just before half time leaving the score 1-04 to 1-02.

Lusmagh/Drumcullen once again started the half very well registering 3 points before Roisin Keenahan and Katie Keyes responded with a point each. The St Sinchills backs then came into their own, Fiadh Dolan, Ciara Glynn and Muireann Carton dealt with anything that came their way while Rachel Dillon, Eabha Flanagan and Helen Hensey were collecting and delivering quality ball up the field. Lauren Keenahans runs through the middle were causing the opposition plenty of trouble. This pressure resulted in Roisin Keenahan and Keelin Guilfoyle hitting the net with two great finishes.

Drumcullen kept fighting and tagged on two more scores but Roisin Keenahan topped off a quality performance with a sublime score from a tight angle to leave the final score St Sinchills 3-06 to Lusmagh/Drumcullen 1-09.

The win ensures a league final spot for our girls. Well done to all players and management.

Scorers: R Keenahan 2-2, K Guilfoyle 1-0, L Keenahan 0-2, K Keyes 0-2
