Robbie Smyth kicked two late points as Abbeylara earned a 0-12 to 1-9 draw with Colmcille in this afternoon’s Longford senior football championship final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
After having netted an 11th minute goal through Barry McKeon, Colmcille would go on to hold a 1-4 to 0-5 lead at half-time ahead of points from Smyth (free) and Caolan Lynch levelling the decider five minutes into the second-half.
Abbeylara hit the front seven minutes later via another Smyth free and it’d be airtight until Colmcille’s late push saw points flying over via ‘keeper Noel Farrell and Cathal Reilly to put them up by two heading towards injury-time.
The last two minutes saw Smyth coming up trumps and this effort (watch it below) ensured that the sides are now set for a replay next weekend to decide the destination of the Sean Connolly Cup.
