Kildare picked up their first win of this year’s Allianz Hurling League Division 2A campaign by seeing off Kerry on a 1-21 to 1-14 scoreline in Hawkfield this afternoon.

Paddy McKenna’s penalty six minutes into the second-half proved crucial for the Lilywhites, who were without the services of Jack Sheridan for this one, as they were able to kick on and hand the Kingdom their second loss.

The home side had led by 0-9 to 0-5 after 27 minutes but Maurice O’Connor’s goal ensured that only a point separated the teams come the break (0-11 to 1-7).

Jack Higgins grabbed a point for Kildare early in the restart and the sliotar would be in Kerry’s net five minutes later via McKenna’s penalty.

Cian Boran and David Qualter, who finished with 0-9, extended the Leinster side’s advantage from there and, despite points from Gavin Dooley and O’Connor at the other end, Brian Dowling’s men would see out a vital win.
