Meath secured their return to Division 2A of the Allianz Hurling League this afternoon thanks to a 0-20 to 0-14 win over Donegal in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Having topped Division 2B with a 100% record, the Royals lived up to their billing as favourites against their Ulster counterparts as Sean Quigley, Martin Healy and Eamon Óg Ó Donnchadha sailed over early points to settle then into this decider.

Joint captain Jack Regan also struck six frees as Seoirse Bulfin’s men carried in a 0-10 to 0-8 lead at the break, but Donegal stormed in front early on in the restart.

Liam McKinney (free), Padraig Doherty and Declan Coulter raised the white flags that gave the Tir Chonaill men the lead prior to Regan levelling matters and the Kiltale marksman would come up big down the home stretch for the Royal County.

Regan’s frees pushed Donegal further adrift and points from Seanie Geraghty and substitute Daire Shine (2) in the closing stages would ensure Bulfin’s side their return to Division 2A with six points to spare in the end.
