UL will face UCC in next Wednesday’s Sigerson Cup final after both teams came through their respective semi-finals last night.
UL made their goals count in a 3-12 to 0-12 victory over DCU at Netwatch Cullen Park, where Ciaran Jones’s strike sent the Limerick students towards a 1-7 to 0-4 half-time lead.
Aaron Griffin and Mayo’s Eoghan McLaughlin supplied the second-half goals that saw UL booking a return to the final stage which they were defeated by NUI Galway on last year.
The later game in Carlow saw UCC edge out TU Dublin by 1-12 to 0-13.
Dylan Geaney's superb goal sent the Cork side towards a six-point half-time lead before the Dublin students fought their way back after the turnaround.
Shane Cunnane, Sean Guiden and Jack Flynn all grabbed points to narrow the margin but Cork star Cathail O’Mahony would steady UCC’s ship with some vital scores down the home stretch, as they went on to record the two-point victory.
UCC now meet UL next Wednesday evening in SETU Waterford with the coveted Sigerson Cup crown on the line.
