Another link with the trailblazing Offaly football team of the early 1960s has been severed with the passing of Colonel Peter Daly.
The Ballinamere man won Leinster SFC medals with the Faithful County in 1960 and ’61, and lined out at centre forward on the team that lost the 1961 All-Ireland final to Down before a record attendance of over 90,000 at Croke Park. Daly’s senior inter-county career only spanned four seasons, but he squeezed a lot into that time and continued to play for his beloved Ballinamere for a number of years after, despite moving away from the area at a young age.
Sadly missed by his wife Ann, daughter Adrienne, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law, sisters, brothers and extended family, Peter’s Funeral Mass will take place in Clarecastle, Co. Clare this morning, followed by cremation service in Shannon Crematorium.
