Nemo Rangers dethrone Barrs for 23rd Cork SFC triumph

Nemo Rangers secured their fifth Cork senior football championship title in eight years this evening by dethroning St Finbarr’s with a 1-16 to 2-9 victory at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
Luke Connolly and Conor Horgan combined for 1-11 for the Rebel County kingpins as they dominated large portions of the first-half before Horgan’s goal on 39 minutes put them into an unassailable nine-point lead.
Captain Connolly, Horgan and Barry O’Driscoll shot the points that helped Nemo to lead by 0-9 to 0-4 at the half and they kept the pressure on the holders after the turnaround.
Horgan’s strike sent his side on their way towards an 11-point advantage and they could even afford to ship two goals in a closing quarter that saw veteran Paul Kerrigan coming off the bench as he claimed his 10th senior football championship medal on this occasion.
The victory marks a 23rd Cork SFC success for the city club in 50 years.
