Munster MFC: Limerick too strong for Deise

December 12, 2020

Limerick now face Clare or Tipperary for a place in the Munster MFC final

Limerick advanced to the semi-finals of the Munster minor football championship after defeating Waterford by 2-12 to 1-5 this afternoon at the LIT Gaelic Grounds.

Goals from David O’Shaughnessy (1-5) and James Killian either side of the break helped the Treaty men to cruise in this one and book a spot against either Clare or Tipperary next Wednesday night.

The hosts had been three up when the earned a penalty in first-half injury-time which O’Shaughnessy converted and points from Ciaran O’Sullivan and Gary Sheehan would see them leading by 1-6 to 0-3 at half-time.

Waterford grabbed a lifeline two minutes into the restart when Sam Pender flicked in a goal.

However, that would be as good as it got for the Deise men as Killian palmed home Limerick’s second major two minutes later and further scores from O’Shaughnessy and Paddy Kennedy rounded off the 10-point win.

Joe Lee’s side now await Clare in the semi-finals after the Banner County's impressive 20-point triumph over Tipperary in Thurles.
