Munster MFC: Clare crush Tipp with 20-point trouncing

Clare are into the Munster minor football championship semi-finals

Clare had minimal fuss in booking their slot into the Munster minor football championship semi-finals after crushing Tipperary by 1-24 to 1-4 in Thurles.

The Banner men’s sizzling start to this provincial quarter-final saw them race into a 0-6 to nothing lead after 14 minutes and they’d be 0-11 to 0-2 up before Toby Lambe struck a sorely need goal for Tipp.

It cut the visitors’ lead to six by the break after they’d kicked eight wides and also left two goal chances behind them.

Brian McNamara came close to finding the Tipperary net early in the restart but his shot tailed just wide and Clare would have to settle for scores from Cillian McGroary, Diarmuid Fahy and Dara Nagle instead.

Fahy and McGroary kept the scores coming before the former found Tipperary’s net and it sent Clare towards a 1-20 to 1-3 lead come the second water break.

It afforded Banner boss Dermot Coughlan the opportunity to empty his bench during the closing quarter, with one eye on this Wednesday night’s showdown against Limerick, whom defeated Waterford earlier today, for a place in the Munster final.
