The death took place earlier this week of former Edenderry and Offaly footballer Sean 'Hooper' Farrell.
'Hooper' was a legendary figure in his home town of Edenderry where he ran the famous Hooper's Shop. He represented Offaly at all levels and lined out in their 1954 Leinster SFC final defeat to Meath. He was also part of the first Offaly team to win the O'Byrne Cup in the same year.
Farrell's finest hour in the red jersey of Edenderry came in 1957 when he scored 1-3 in their Offaly SFC final victory over Clara. After hanging up his boots, he managed the Offaly ladies footballers to a four in-a-row of Leinster titles and an All-Ireland triumph in 1979 when his daughter Doreen was captain.
'Hooper's' enormous contribution to the GAA was recognised with the Edenderry GAA Hall of Fame award in 2017.
