Oxigen gets thumbs up from Westmeath County Council

April 30, 2010
Oxigen may be a new player in county Westmeath but has decades of experience in waste collection services across the country.

Oxigen entered the Westmeath market at the start of this year after securing the County Council contract to collect waste and recyclables from some 12,000 homes.
As part of that deal Oxigen was awarded ownership of the blue bins which means that people previously utilising the service from the County Council can easily make the transition to Oxigen. All any householder has to do is pop down to the nearest participating shop and purchase some Oxigen tags. Alternatively, anyone seeking further information should call 044 9 344 344 or log onto www.oxigen.ie
But while Oxigen may be the new kid on the block in Westmeath it is, in fact, one of the largest providers of waste collection and services in Ireland. The company was established 23 years' ago by Sean Doyle and while the company now manages the waste streams of around 100,000 domestic, commercial and industrial customers across Ireland it is still very much run as a family business with family values.
One of the key driving forces behind the company is its desire to offer the very best service for the very best price. In Westmeath the company is currently running a special two for one offer where customers can purchase two recycling bins tags for only Eu4 and two waste bins tags for only Eu8!
Oxigen is now also responsible for the running of civic ammenity sites in Mullingar and Athlone. The idea behind these facilities is to allow people to bring their recyclables to a centrally located site. They are also designed to promote recycling and help to increase the amount of waste recycled in Ireland each year.

It is worth stressing that Oxigen does not just collect bins but is a fully-integrated waste management company which strives to achieve the highest recycling levels possible. While there will always be residual waste that ends up in landfill the company's goal is to reduce this and to divert as much as possible into recycling initiatives.
John Brick, Head of Domestic Sales, said that he was delighted the company had won the Westmeath County Council tender and was looking forward to a long future in Westmeath.
"We are, of course, delighted to have won the Council contract and will use all our experience gained across the country during our 23 years to provide the people of Westmeath with the very best services and at the very best price.
"We appreciate that every penny counts and particularly at the current time and so hope that our two for one offer helps people in the county significantly reduce their monthly household bills."
Since taking over the County Council domestic bins collection services at the start of the year Oxigen has created seven new full time jobs bringing total staff in the county to 12.

Oxigen currently employs in the region of 300 people and operates in Westmeath, Laois, Longford, Cavan, Meath, Offaly, Dublin, Kildare, Monaghan, Louth.

OXIGEN ON TARGET IN WESTMEATH WITH SHAMROCKS' SPONSORSHIP

Oxigen, which has secured the Westmeath Council Council contract to collect domestic bins from some 12,000 householders, is now firmly embedded in the county with its sponsorship of Shamrocks GAA club.
The company will see its already strong links with the GAA strengthened by its decision to act as the official sponsor of Mullingar Shamrocks for the entire 2010 season.
Oxigen, which is one of the largest providers of waste services in Ireland only entered the local market at the start of the year and immediately looked around for local causes to support.
Founded almost 25 years ago Oxigen has always prided itself on integrating into the communities which it serves and supporting the people of those areas.
However, the GAA is close to the heart of the company as founder Sean Doyle's son John has played for his county side Louth.
On top of that Cavan's goal machine Jason O'Reilly is Oxigen's Commercial Manager in his home county.
Already the new sponsor appears to have had a positive impact on the club as the U21s who take to the field with Oxigen emblazoned on they shirts have won the championship.
Pierce Corroon, Chairman of Shamrocks said: "Mullingar Shamrocks are very proud to reveal Oxigen Environmental Services as sponsors of the club. We are delighted that Oxigen has very gnerously offered to sponsor us for this 2010 Championship season.
"Mullingar Shamrocks see them as key sponsors not only of Shamrocks but also of the community with their excellent environmental programmes and services available to people in Westmeath and beyond."
Mr Corroon further added that the club deeply appreciated the support from Oxigen particularly since sponsorship was not easy to come by in these difficult times.
"I would strong urge our members, our friends and families to support Oxigen the way they have supported us. This additional financial support to the club will be of huge benefit to the people now and into the future. I wish Oxigen, which I see as Westmeath's premier waste collection company, all the best and a long future in the county."
John Brick, Head of Domestic Sales at Oxigen, said: "We believe that it is important to support the counties in which we operate and give something back to the community which supports our business week in and week out.
"We hope that the success of the Shamrocks' U21 team is the first of many wins for the club this season."

OXIGEN BREATHES LIFE INTO WESTMEATH JOBS MARKET CREATING 12 POSITIONS

OXIGEN, the company which won the Westmeath County Council tender for domestic waste in the county, has created seven new full time jobs since the start of the year bringing total staff in the county to 12!

After a tendering process, which was open to all suitably qualified companies, Oxigen was given the thumbs up from the County Council at the end of last year to collect the blue bins from around 12,000 householders in Westmeath.
The company, which is one of the largest waste service providers in Ireland, is hoping that further jobs will be created as more and more people in the county become aware of Oxigen.
The 12 full time jobs which have already been established include six jobs in collections and one in sales. The remaining five positions have resulted from the retention of staff at civic amenity sites in Mullingar and Athlone which Oxigen has also taken over responsibility for.
On top of that four occasional positions have been created to tackle leafleting and stickering. These positions were active from the start of the year until a few weeks ago and it is hoped that as Oxigen becomes more established in county Westmeath that these workers can be re-employed - and in the not too distant future.
One new employee Pat Keena said: "It's great to see a major player like Oxigen come to the county and generating new jobs. I had been working for Gannon Concrete in Kilbeggan but they went into receivership. I'm personally delighted Oxigen is here to stay!"
Oxigen which has some 23 years experience in the sector is celebrating the securement of the County Council contract by offering customers a two for one special offer on tags - representing the best value around. Customers can purchase two recycling bins tags for only eu4 and two waste bins tags for only eu8. However, those keen to avail of these discounted prices should snap tags up at their nearest participating shop now as the offer ends in June. Oxigen can be contacted by calling its midlands office on 044 9 344 344 or see www.oxigen.ie
John Brick, Head of Domestic Sales, said: "We are very pleased to have secured this contract in Westmeath and will endeavour to do our absolute best to ensure all our customers receive a first class service.
"It is also heartening that we are doing a bit to help reduce the county's dole queue and certainly hope we can do much more in the area of job creation in the months and years to come. The staff we have working for us in Westmeath are second to none and we appreciate all their hard work."
The company, based on family values since its creation by Sean Doyle in 1987, now employs more than 300 people and manages the waste streams of 100,000 domestic, commercial and industrial customers throughout Ireland.
