The Late Chris Johnston

March 22, 2012
It is with deep regret that Mr Christopher Johnston has passed away at his home in Bootle, Liverpool. Originally from Ardee (St Mary's) Louth Chris has been associated with Liverpool John Mitchels and the wider GAA Community in Britain since 1952. Over his 60 years in Liverpool he has held every position within the club form Chairman to his current position of life president. On the field he won every honour with Mitchel's and he was part of the Lancashire team which lost the 1953 All-Ireland junior final to Cork. Chris sat on provincial councils and was a true Gael in every sense of the word.

Chris attended John Mitchels' games right up until last season and was delighted to be present in Croke Park when Mitchel's took to the field in the All-Ireland Junior Club final in 2009. He rarely
missed a Gaelic match in the Irish Centre and was there for all past and present members as a friend and companion. He brought inspiration to those away from home and provided advice and guidance in many capacities to those within and outside of the GAA community.

Chris was well respected by all whom met with him as he had the right traits in a gentleman - kind, caring and humble.

It is only fitting that he be at peace with his late wife, Vera Johnston and best friend Mr Tommy Walsh. All associated with John Mitchels and the greater GAA circles within Britain and beyond were saddened to learn of the passing a great man and friend to all. Although he leaves a great void within our club his legacy has left the John Mitchel's in a strong position.

On behalf of all associated with Liverpool John Mitchels we extend our condolences to all the Johnston family.
