Teenager Niall Sludden was the toast of Dromore after his late point handed them victory over Clonoe in an exciting Tyrone SFC final at Healy Park yesterday.

Damian Cassidy's Clonoe side had shown great character to come from seven points down to draw level with 10 minutes to go thanks to goals from centre back Shane Cooney and minor star Daniel McNulty. But Dromore held their nerve to capture their third O'Neill Cup in three years and avenge their 2008 loss to Clonoe.

The final got off to an unusual start with referee Eamon McHugh twisting his knee inside the first minute and he was replaced by Eugene McConnell. Dromore were quickest to settle as their captain Eoin McCusker and Paddy Montague both found the target from frees. Montague grabbed the game's first score from play in the 19th minute and a further point from McCusker made it 0-4 to 0-1.

At half-time, Dromore led by 0-6 to 0-3 and extended their advantage after the restart when Ryan McMenamin came forward from defence to split the posts. It looked to be all over for Clonoe when McCusker fired a low shot past Mickey O'Neill for the opening goal, but they came from the dead before Sludden broke their hearts when landing the winner after good work by former county star Colm McCullagh and sub Conor O'Neill.
