Davy Fitzgerald has been ratified as the new manager of the Wexford senior hurling team.

The former Clare boss has been appointed on a three-year term, with a review to take place after his second season.

Fitzgerald, who stepped down after five years at the helm of his native county last month, met with Wexford officials in Portlaoise yesterday before the appointment was made official at a special county board meeting in Enniscorthy this evening.

"I am really excited about this opportunity with Wexford, and I was honoured to be asked to accept the job. It's a new challenge for me, and I'm really looking forward to it." the 2013 All-Ireland winning manager is quoted saying in a statement released on the Wexford GAA website.

A backroom team has yet to be confirmed but JJ Doyle, who guided the Model County to All-Ireland camogie senior and intermediate glory and a three-in-a-row of Leinster U21 hurling titles is set to take up a role.
