Three All-Ireland club hurling champions have been drawn in the same group in the Galway SHC.
Reigning kingpins St. Thomas' have been pitted against Portumna and Clarinbridge. Incredibly, all three have held the Tommy Moore Cup in the past four years. The fourth team in the Group A are last year's intermediate winners Killimordaly, who haven't played in the championship to date.
Group B is also expected to be fiercely competitive with last year's semi-finalists, Gort and Turloughmore, being joined by Mullagh and the winners of this Sunday's second round clash between Ardrahan and Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry.
Group C consists of last year's runners-up Loughrea, Castlegar, Kinvara and Craughwell. Group D comprises of Padraig Pearses, Kiltormer, Tommy Larkins and the winners of tomorrow's second round replay between Liam Mellows and Beagh.
Sarsfields, Carnmore and the loser of Ardrahan v Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry have been drawn in one relegation group, with Moycullen, Athenry and the loser of Liam Mellows v Beagh making up the other.
