Saturday not the be-all and end-all for Ryan

Antrim hurling manager Kevin Ryan
Kevin Ryan says - win or lose on Saturday - Antrim hurlers will continue with their long-term plan.

The Glensmen face a tricky trek to Portlaoise for their second outing in this year's Leinster SHC and their manager will be going all out for a win. But, if defeat is to be their lot, he insists the northerners will carry on regardless

Ryan is expecting a tougher game than the Saffrons' first-round victory over Westmeath in Mullingar:

"Laois are that bit better and I would think we have to be prepared for a faster game on Saturday," the Waterford man told BBC Sport Northern Ireland.

"They beat Westmeath in the Division 2A final and I don't think there's going to be a lot in this game.

"It's a long way down for people but we had only about 12 or 14 people at one of the recent games and it definitely does make a difference if you have even one busload supporting you.

"Of course this result is important but regardless of what happens on Saturday, we have plans in place and things that we are aiming to achieve in a whole series of regards.

"From my own point of view, I am happy that steps are being taken to ensure that the right structures are put in place for the senior team.

"Some of the things, we're still talking about rather than doing but I'd be happy enough that we're getting there."
