Martin laments lack of training facilities

March 20, 2010
Kevin Martin says the Westmeath county board must get their priorities right if hurling in the county is to make progress.

Speaking after last week's surprise home defeat by Kildare which leaves the Lake County in danger of slipping out of Division 2 of the NHL, the former Offaly star spoke of the difficulties he faces in securing training facilities for his players.

"After the Carlow match, we said we'd wait until the Wednesday night to train and we hadn't a pitch to train on," the Westmeath manager explained.

"On the Thursday night, we had no pitch to train on, we were in the gym. So really we had no hurling done until this week. If you haven't got proper pitches to play matches, you won't improve. I'm not blaming that completely, but it's not a help."
