Waterford and Ballygunner star Stephen O'Keeffe
Teenage trio Stephen O'Keeffe, Philip and Pauric Mahony made history at the weekend when they helped Ballygunner to complete a hat-trick of Waterford senior, under 21 and minor hurling titles. Only once before had a Waterford club won senior, under 21 and minor hurling titles in the same year, and that was 15 years ago when Mount Sion claimed all three crowns. On this occasion, however, the achievement was all the more remarkable as O'Keeffe and the Mahonys started all three county finals. In addition to winning three county titles with Ballygunner, they also captured Munster MHC medals with Waterford this year. The 'Gunners completed the final leg of a famous hat-trick when they overcame Dungarvan by 1-7 to 1-6 in the county under 21 decider at Walsh Park. Underdogs Dungarvan led by 1-4 to 1-2 at half-time, but their city opponents battled back to claim the spoils, having survived a late miss by Dungarvan free-taker Cormac Curran.
