Paddy Keenan's late team-mate Eamon Carroll was foremost in his thoughts after the former All Star skippered St. Patrick's to a seventh Louth SFC title in 12 years.

Carroll lost his life in a road accident just days after the Lordship men triumphed in last year's Joe Ward Cup decider, and Keenan was quick to dedicate yesterday's 1-14 to 0-9 victory over Sean O'Mahony's to him.

"Twelve months ago we were in this position and we were on top of the world, but we lost a man who not alone was a great footballer, but a great friend. He was a gentleman and someone we all loved," the joint-captain is quoted in the Irish Daily Star.

"It felt in the second half there especially that he was looking down on us and I hope he is proud of us. This really meant more than just a cup so I'd like to dedicate this win to Eamon Carroll and the Carroll family."
