NFL 2: Orchard in bloom
March 14, 2010
Armagh are looking good following their latest win in Division Two: 0-12 to 0-5 against Kildare at Crossmaglen.
There was much pre-match hype surrounding Kieran McGeeney's return to his native county but this game was a total non-event as far as 'Geezer' and his team were concerned.
Kildare didn't get started in the first half and Armagh led by 0-7 to 0-2 at the break.
Steven McDonnell and Stephen Forker pointed in the second and ninth minutes respectively to give the Orchard County a 0-2 to no score lead.
After 16 scoreless minutes, Kildare finally got their first point through James Kavanagh on 25 minutes and Gary White followed up with the equaliser.
Forker registered the home side's third point and McDonnell also got his second - from a simple free - to make it 0-4 to 0-2 after half an hour.
The hosts had three more points from Paul Kernan, Forker and Aaron Kernan (free) to lead by five at the interval.
Daryl Flynn pointed for the Lilywhites on the resumption but Forker quickly replied for Armagh.
Johnny Doyle had the gap back to three with a brace, 0-8 to 0-5, but McDonnell (2), Michael McNamee and Ronan Austin finished the scoring with four in a row for high-flying Armagh, who now have a mouth-watering top-of the-table derby against Down at Pairc Esler to look forward to.
