Mac an tSaoir seeks revenge
March 13, 2010
Kerry under 21 goalkeeper Tomas Mac an tSaoir has admitted that the Kingdom will be gunning for revenge when they face Cork in today's Cadbury Munster championship first round clash at Austin Stack Park.
The Gaeltacht man was part of the Kerry team - then reigning All-Ireland champions - which was ripped apart by the Rebels in last year's corresponding tie at Pairc Ui Rinn, and is eager to lay the ghosts of that crushing loss to rest.
"I don't know what happened to us, we didn't even get off the bus it seems. They just blew us away and were fully deserving of their win. We had no answer at all and they showed what a good team they are by going on to win the All-Ireland," he said in the Irish Examiner.
"I've great memories of 2008 and it was a brilliant experience winning it. But we were brought back down to earth last year by losing out so early."
On this afternoon's game, he added: "There is an element of revenge to it, I suppose. But if we're going to make up for last year, we'll need to improve hugely on that performance.
"With the type of players Cork have, we'd want to make a huge improvement to our football. They're not All-Ireland champions for nothing. They showed what a great side they are last year by winning it out and beating really good teams along the way. A lot of their players are around again this year and they'll put it up to us. They beat us well at minor three years ago as well. It's a really tough test for us."
"It's a help being at home and two years ago it worked out well for us when we beat Cork in Tralee. But to be honest if we play like we did last year against Cork, then it won't matter where the game is on. The most important thing is that we've to concentrate on is improving our performance from last year."
