Louth defender Padraig Rath has been ruled out of the rest of the national football league.

The corner back fractured his left ankle when competing for a 50-50 ball with Cavan's Micheal Lyng during Sunday's victory at Drogheda.

An x-ray revealed that a small bone was broken and the Dreadnots man will be in a cast for six weeks.

The lay-off could also rule Rath out of the Leinster championship clash with Longford.

He recalls: "Two of us went for it and he got it. I went to stop his run but my leg twisted and I heard a crack straight away." Tweet
