Tompkins hopeful that Masters will return

Cork legend Larry Tompkins
Former Cork manager Larry Tompkins says he hopes that James Masters will reconsider his recent decision to quit inter-county football.
Tompkins, who steered the Rebels to an All-Ireland final appearance in 1999, believes that the best is yet to come from Nemo Rangers attacker and thinks that Conor Counihan and his management team should be persuading him of a return.
"To be honest if I was the Cork management I would be doing everything I could to get him to change his mind because I believe he hasn't peaked yet," Tompkins told the Irish Daily Mirror..
"He still has an awful lot to offer. I would certainly hope he reconsiders because I believe any county would want him to be part of their plans.
"You would hope that he would change his mind but the longer he is out of the inter-county frame the more difficult it would be for him to get back into it."
Meanwhile, Cork selector Ger O'Sullivan hasn't ruled out the possibility of asking Masters to come back to the squad ahead of their Munster SFC semi-final against either Kerry or Tipperary in June.
"The Cork championship will be starting on the first weekend of April, and if certain players show up well for their clubs, we will have no hesitation in asking them on to the panel.
"Of course, if we did decide to ask James Masters back, it would be up to himself to decide whether he wanted to rejoin us."
