2012 and '13 champions UCC suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of NUI Galway today.

The hosts lost their opening round tie against UL by 0-6 to 2-24 but bounced back in considerable style to claim UCC's scalp.

Ger Cunningham's UCC charges enjoyed a slender 0-11 to 0-10 interval lead but NUIG shaded a close second-half.
