Hopefully the GAA managed to get a much better deal this time in terms of money.
The last deal was only slightly more than TV3 would've paid and considering the viewing numbers are shockingly bad on Sky you'd have to hope that there's a lot of money coming in to make it worthwhile.
One presumes that of the GAA are happy to have so few people watching these games on TV that they are getting a good bit of extra money to invest back into the games.

They have a substantial investment starting in 2018 for the Six Nations so that's where their focus will be." It's understood the Association has agreed a deal in the region of €80 million for the new Sky Sports contract, following on from the initial three-year deal. TV 3 and UTV are there by name only as Virgin Media bought them out recently, RTE are the only national broadcaster left that can't/don't supply broadband to their customers. Sky have both feet inside the door now, and with the state of RTE's finances I believe the stage is set for sky to make a bid for part or all of RTE as a broadcaster, something like Aer Lingus. I'm not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing that's the way I see it, RTE can't survive unless they provide broadband, sky can deliver that.

I think competition rules would be an obstacle for sky to have an influential holding in the state broadcaster broadband or not.

Who are Sky selling to?
Big GAA fans. A chunk of their disposable income is now going to go to Sky when it could be going to them attending games.
"In a departure from the previous media rights deal, the GAA has retained its clip rights for all games with plans to leverage them across its own platforms as part of a wider digital content strategy."
Seems like a good strategy.

It's 2016.
Things have changed.
Sky's package was the one previously held by TV3 so less people can see the games now on TV.
I just hope that the extra money is worth less people seeing the games.

Delighted TG4 have kept their brilliant coverage of Sunday league game aka not Dublin. The underage championship and club championship.
The thing that dissapoints me with this is Newstalk loosing their radio coverage which was excellent in terms of time given to it, analyses, effort and commitment.
Princapaly I am annoyed that newstalk were outbid by RTE. So we loose the free to air coverage that was new talk, to RTE who outbid them using taxpayers licence fees. Wrong.
