Kicked Goal in Hurling

(Oldest Posts First)

Gotta be one of the greatest rule changes to be made. There have been so many brilliant goals that might never have been if the kicked goal we still allowed.

My Da used to say, if he uses his foot remind him that it's hurling we're playing. I agree with you, but English's kicked goal V Tipp was stylish!

Aidan Fogarty scored a great kicked goal in an All-Ireland final a few years ago, top quality finish. When was this rule changed?

Always taught the gettin rid of the hand pass goal was a bad move is even a bad team can throw a big full forward in to catch and score plus goals bring more excitement and it would lead to more direct hurling

Very hard to direct the sliothar by kicking it under pressure. It's usually a last resort. Lads now are using drop shots, spooning it over the keeper or striking it face high with shortened grip.

Excellent goal scored by a Galway u21 player last year against Kilkenny in Thurles in the U21 AI Semi Final. Class goal. Had everyone fooled because it rocketed back out as fast as it had gone in. Everyone thought it had hit off the crossbar but umpire put up the green flag and was proven in the replays after I think that it had actually hit the back post in the goals and came back out. Pty it's not on youtube. Was a brilliant goal

Its harder to score nowadays using the boot as the top of boots has changed to a firmer fit around the laces and toes, batting can be more effective.

"Headed" goal was by a Tipp forward whose helmet the sliotar deflected off into the goal,he didn't even realise what had happened!

Am against both handpassed and kicked goals in hurling.

Also am against fisted points in football.
