Dubs to sport suicide prevention logo on jerseys

As per the arcticle on the main page...

I think this is a great idea, and Dublin football and hurlers done the same thing last year for the leage and Cork with Mercy hospital aswell in the league.
Vodafone have agreed to allow this happen, as they have done in the past with the dubs, and fair play to Vodfone for doing this.

However, would it be worth the GAA allowing a "free sponsor" for a charity, like this one, on ALL county jersies, on either the sleeve, or back of the jersies (like Carlow last weekend).
So keep your county sponsor on the front, but every county carries a charity on the back or sleeve aswell, raising awareness of thesee charities on a constant basis.

I dont see any reason why it cant be done but just interested to get other peoples opinions.

A very worthwhile thing to do. If it can be done on television ads it can be done in this context too. It could be done similar to the League of Ireland jersey design.

Yep correct and Roscommon also done the same with the hospice I think.

Either the GAA could tie in with one charity over all, or each individual county could promote one within their own county, i.e
Galway - cancer care west
Cork - Mercy Hospital
Roscommon - Hospice
and so on.

Well done to Dublin and Carlow for raising awareness of this but its something that everyone should be doing, No exceptions, At the end of the day there are some things that are just more important than sport. Ones mental health being one of those more important things.

Indeed fair play to Dublin and something that is well worth it. It is a subject that many find hard to talk about and it taking many lives at all ages. There is a programme on RTE 1 now about it.

Well done to vodafone for allowing this to happen. But bear in mind they are pretty much certain they will have at least 4 or 5 more opportunities to have their logo sported on a jersey in a packed Croke park and on television. Big ask of other counties' sponsors to give up what is already limited exposure. No reason why every county can't have something on the sleeve or back that doesn't take away from the main sponsor though.

What does anyone think of the article on the main page about the HSE calling on the GAA and other organisations not to glamourise suicide by dedicating games or trophys to people who have taken their own life?
I (thankfully) have no close experience of a friend/fmaily member commiting suicide so I wouldn't like to criticise too much what they say. However it seems a bit out of order to me. I think that we have been far too reluctant in this country to face up to this problem, and mental health issues in general. Surely anything that gets people discussing suicide and how to prevent it or deal with it, has to be of benefit. I can't see how having a memorial or a game dedicated to a person who committed suicide is going to normalise it, or make anyone think it is an acceptable thing to do, if they weren't thinking that way already. Instead, I would have imagined that it might encourage people to talk about the deceased person, and why they might have committed suicide, and if anything might encourage other people to say that they too have issues that they might need help with.
As I say, I am no expert on the subject, and if qualified psychologists say it is not a helpful thing to do then fair enough. But I would like to know what other people think.
