Ladies Gaelic Football

(Oldest Posts First)

It may have went unnoticed but at the weekend the Cork ladies gaelic footballers won their 7th national football league in the last decade. This is added to the 7 All-Irelands that they have won in the same period. Everybody rightly acknowledges the achievements of Kilkenny, Crossmaglen, Kerry, Tyrone over the same period and rightly so. As success cannot be effectively compared (Kerry and Tyrone obviously can), their achievement, in my opinion, is as noteworthy as any of the aforementioned. We are privileged in Cork to have such great players such as Elaine Harte, Angela Walsh, Geraldine O'Flynn, Valerie Mulcahy, Brid Stack etc and an exceptional coach in Eamon Ryan. Comhghairdeas go léir. Bhí sibh ar fheabhas arís.

Indeed well done to them.

Unfortuneately they don't get as much coverage, Recognition or support. Cork winning 7 all Irelands in 10 years doesn't do the game any favours either. Horrible to see dominance in any sport it becomes boring and predictable.. Womans football just doesn't have the same feel about it as the mens, Its sad but it will never change.

Agreed Wayno

I too don't like to see too much dominance (even when it is my own team in this case that is the dominant one). To be fair TG4 are giving the sport great coverage. It is also a fast growing sport (is it the fastest in the country?). While Cork dominating is not good, I'll admit, they have raised the standard of the game for all to catch. I think we will stay close to the top but not dominate forever.
