TheMaster if your talking about beating defending AI champions you may as well add Galway in 1999. Dublin are defending AI champs now IMO i can't see them holding onto the title & i won't be surprised if the team that beats them won't go on to win the All Ireland. My Prediction for the weekend is Mayo 2-12 Leitrim 0-11 - Think it will be close but we may just pull away in the end (hear is hoping anyway) yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12122 - 22/06/2012 16:27:55 1200017 Link 0 |

It's a simple point, its not about wins etc, we know about Sligo's frailties -but to be more explicit - when they turn on that hard-running game they are a very impressive outfit and I don't believe any of the teams in Connacht can cope with it when they do. Mayo 2-13 Leitrim 0-10, think if Mayo go into the game with the correct attitude they should win handily enough. If they go in with the attitude they had against London last year they will struggle, one factor that may act against them is the may not have match sharpness. But Mayo should have too much talent at their disposal to win this with a bit to spare. As for the best team in Connacht the past 6-7 years it has to be Mayo don't think anyone can dispute that, Sligo have won one title and caused a few upsets, but Mayo are the benchmark in Connacht and the only team in the province who can seriously threaten the big teams for an All Ireland. I think it is becoming a mental issue with them that they haven't managed it yet. Galway seem to be a team who when they get to the All Ireland Semis and Finals just have that winning mentality that sees them through. I never met a neutral who was dreaming about a Sligo v Leitrim Connacht Final. Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 4795 - 22/06/2012 18:28:31 1200110 Link 0 |

Can somebody explain why Kildare and and Donegal are considered contenders ahead of Mayo? Who have Kildare beaten? And don't go on about hard luck cause we have buckets of it since 1989. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12122 - 23/06/2012 11:56:59 1200290 Link 0 |

yew tree, you probably answered your own Q, Mayo have 1 big game every year, this year it was Kerry. allSOran (Sligo) - Posts: 690 - 23/06/2012 17:06:01 1200464 Link 0 |

allSOran - Thats a very simplistic and lazy view. The fact that Mayo often get to the latter stages of the all ireland suggest we win more than one big game a year. For example Matt cooper said on Friday that Mayo flopped against kerry last year......mayo were not good enough to beat kerry. The same tripe is thrown at donegal, kildare or other counties. 32 teams "flop" every year if that is the case as only one team wins sam. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12122 - 23/06/2012 17:29:57 1200471 Link 0 |

Have to feel sorry for Leitrim, gave a good account of themselves in the 1st half but two Mayo goals gave them a bigger lead than they deserved. Leitrim heads dropped & was all Mayo in the 2nd half. Bad few days for Leitrim football & i think Sligo will be happy Mayo won well today as complacency will be a problem for them now. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3993 - 24/06/2012 17:03:02 1201054 Link 0 |

not lon home from Castlebar.....gret win for mayo but Horan will not have learnt much from this trouncing. I think it was just too easy. When Leitrim did run at Mayo in the first half they opened us up a few times. Give that kind of space to marren and kelly and we will be in big trouble in the connacht final. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 12122 - 24/06/2012 18:36:20 1201161 Link 0 |
